Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Cecile graduated from Mercy College of Detroit with bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and political science. She had her sights on attending law school. While in college, Cecile interned at a prestigious black think tank, The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, in Washington, DC, where she worked on renewal of the Voting Rights Act and joined the struggle to create a federal holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cecile’s career trajectory changed when she saw the damage being done in her community by the 1980’s “crack epidemic.” She began advocating for children in the foster care system and working on their behalf for stable home environments, adoption, and independent living for those who were aging out of the system. She went on to develop long-lasting programs and services that addressed homelessness in metro-Detroit while graduating from the University of Michigan with a master’s degree in public administration.
Her advocacy for children and families led to her next career as a grant development specialist. Cecile’s determination to gain equity for disenfranchised populations and her excellent writing skills produced hundreds of millions in funding for community-based organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions.
After relocating to Georgia, Cecile decided to return to her first career love – the legal field. She attained a Paralegal certificate from Emory University and was introduced to workers’ compensation law where she worked tirelessly to help those injured on their job receive proper medical treatment and financial compensation. Although Cecile has worked for both plaintiff and defense firms, her passion for supporting the underdog has never died.
As Cecile is shaping her last chapter in the workforce, she is proud to serve as a part-time Legal Assistant to support the attorney and paralegal team at the Stoddard Firm. In her leisure time, she is an avid fan of Formula 1 racing and also enjoys nature walks/hikes, axe-throwing, and watching international dramas.
