The Stoddard Firm is pleased to announce the availability of a scholarship for first-year law school students, which will be awarded at the beginning of the next academic year (August 2021).
This scholarship is designed to encourage and award creative authorship. Informing various audiences is part of the legal profession. The ability to clearly and accurately relay a message is crucial, whether it is addressed to a person inquiring about legal services, a client, a judge, or a jury.
Scholarship applicants must submit a sample of their writing which has previously been published in a newspaper, magazine, professional blog or academic publication. It is not necessary that the subject matter be related to the law; its primary purpose should be to inform readers.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.;
- Commencing law school (1L) in August 2021;
- Written an article which has been published (in print or digital media).
Requirements
Applicants must submit the following by May 3, 2021:
- A completed Scholarship Application Form;
- Copy of law school acceptance letter;
- Copy of previously published article or link to its online location.
Judging Criteria
- Creativity;
- Originality;
- Ability to clearly convey a complex message.
Award
The Stoddard Firm Legal Scholarship is a $2,000 award. We will notify the successful applicant by June 15, 2021. A check for $2,000 will be made payable to the applicable law school and mailed by August 2, 2021, to help defray the recipient’s tuition costs and other expenses. The recipient is expected to abide with current tax laws.
The Fine Print
By submitting an application, the applicant grants the Stoddard Firm permission to use the applicant’s name, school, and photo in marketing platforms. This can include, but is not limited to, the Stoddard Firm’s website, social media accounts, press releases, or other publications.
